“Space, Spirit, Splendor” was Chevrolet’s slogan for the unveiling of the 1960 Chevy Impala. Fast-forward to present day and “splendor” was exactly what Sean Delahanty had in mind when it came time to revamp his very own. Lowriding since he was a kid, he is no stranger to the process. “There’s a formula to building a lowrider,” Sean states, as he tells the intricate details of how this 1960 Chevy Impala dubbed “60 Below” came to be.

The journey began with a rebuilt Chevy 350 small-block, outfitted with Edelbrock intake/valve covers and high-performance carburetor, along with a custom serpentine pulley system, allowing for the Vintage Air A/C system to be bolted on. From there, the original frame was a fully wrapped frame and upgraded with custom chrome G-body rearend. With all the metalwork completely polished and chrome plated by Luis in Indio, California, the vehicle was finally ready to receive the one-of-a-kind plated two-pump three-dump hydraulic setup, powered by six batteries and four switches.

The focal point of this masterpiece was left in the hands of “Zee” from Ace Coachworks in Northridge, California, who would spray the custom turquoise blend with Tito Cardona of B’s Auto Works completing the detailed patterned roof and side quarters. The original teal leather interior with “Hounds Tooth” cloth inserts was provided by Ciadella Interiors in Tempe, Arizona, with longtime friend Manny Aguilera installing the latest Pioneer audio head unit, which controls the mids and highs throughout the car.

To wrap up the festivities, the completed vehicle was then laced with a set of 60-spoke, 13×7 Zenith crosslaces, which were massaged into a set of Coker 5/20-13s. From there the final move came by way of a full detail and with that complete, it was finally time to “See the world in a Chevrolet,” only this time with a bit of that Lowrider spirit.
